Milana Matias stands out on the court. The 5 foot 5 inch point guard takes control of the game by keeping a keen sense of spatial awareness and utilizing her unparalleled quickness. Milana is small, but what she lacks in height she makes up for in ball-handling skills, and the ability to connect with her teammates from all over the court. Her movements are agile, concise and organic. Just by watching her highlight reel it is evident that she has talent derived by a grueling work ethic, and SMG is happy to announce that she will be bringing that talent and dedication to hard work to the NJCAA Vincennes University Trailblazers.

Narcan Legislation Proposal and Rebuttal

The following pieces are a policy proposal and rebuttal that I put together for my New York State Senate Internship Application. The first piece is a proposal to increase the distribution of Naloxone, commonly known as Narcan (a drug used to combat heroine and other opioid over doses). The second piece is written in opposition of the first proposal – arguing that Narcan distribution should be contained. I wanted to write about Narcan because the current heroine epidemic is one that desperately needs to be addressed. I believe that Narcan has the ability to save countless lives while our government and drug force works on combating this issue. If we can get Narcan into the right hands, which is the hands of family, friends, and even drug-users themselves, they may be given a second chance at life.  On the writing itself – the first piece (in support of Narcan) I wanted to be more factually-based. It provides real evidence in the form of facts and figures that illustrate the positive results of Narcan distribution. The second piece I wrote to be more opinion based, with no facts or figures cited. Interestingly enough, I think that the the second piece, which I personally disagree with, turned out better than the first. See for yourself and I appreciate any kind of feedback! Continue reading
